Brief developed for City Planning
- Investigate the possibility of applying for island-wide consents for
composting toilets and alternative wastewater treatment, in effect devolving
delegation for consent to Auckland City Council.
- The purpose would be to allow for economy of scale to offset consent
costs
- Comprehensive discharge consent by catchment for wastewater
- Investigate the possibility of an Appendix on sustainable practices:
- Utilities
- Buildings
- Natural environment
- People/economy
- Mix of guidelines and rules
- Permitted, non-complying, prohibited standards
- Undertake a review of the existing District Plan as it relates to
sustainable practices.
- What is permitted?
- What are the barriers to sustainable practices?
- What will the input be from various government departments in terms of
Waiheke’s future? Eg Ministry of Education’s plans for further secondary
school? What designations are anticipated?
- What are the implications of the “Queenstown” syndrome in relation to
sustainability (i.e. seasonal fluctuations in jobs, water use, accommodation
etc.).
- How can the District Plan encourage home occupations/broadband access, so
that people are able to work from home?
- What sort of baseline demographic information is available?
