Consultation
There were many opportunities available for participating in this process
prior to notification of the proposed plan. Some
of the ways to be involved and kept up to date were:
- focus groups
- workshops
- through your community board or elected representatives
- meeting with council staff during visits to the islands
- iwi consultation
- public meetings and local discussions
- sending correspondence to: Hauraki Gulf Islands District Plan Review,
Auckland City, Private Bag 92516, Wellesley Street Auckland, to express an
interest in the process
- some community groups organised further meetings.
Consultation included, 'visioning' and scenario building exercises,
discussion forums, 'clinics' with staff, public workshops and a questionnaire.
This review will take the new plan out until approximately 2020. A plan that
reflects community aspirations saves time and money in the long term.
Workshops
The first phase of consultation on the district plan review identified a
number of key issues for Great Barrier Island that needed to be addressed in the
new plan. A workshop was held to identify the possible approaches and
outcomes that could be used to address those key issues.
The workshop was held on Saturday 12 November 2005, at the Barleyman Cottage, Okupu.
Public meetings
A series of public events were held from April to May 2005, they included:
- Launch of consultation
- Launch of Great Barrier Island Consultation and
Issues document
- District Plan Review Issues Workshop
- Great Barrier Island District Plan Issues Workshop
- Waiheke Island Visioning Workshop
- Rakino Open Day
- District Plan Review Issues Clinic (Staff available for one on one
discussion)
